Let me describe each one a little more and give you some tips on using it.

1. The Masterpiece Generator (BEST FAIRY TALE)

First, you need to supply quite a lot of information: names, animals, toys. More than 15 things.

Luckily, the tool can give you suggestions. You could even randomize the whole tale with one button.

The generated fairy tale is always the same, except for what you suggested. There are no plot differences. It is a classic fairy tale with a witch, a woodcutter, and a task to be done. Mine was called “Harriet Sweet, and the Three Mean Monkeys” (approximately 1500 words). It starts like this:

Once upon a time there was a short girl called Harriet Sweet. She was on the way to see her Molly Connor, when she decided to take a short cut through Spittleton Woods.

It wasn’t long before Harriet got lost. She looked around, but all she could see were trees. Nervously, she felt into her bag for her favourite toy, Henry the Hippo, but Henry the Hippo was nowhere to be found! Harriet began to panic. She felt sure she had packed Henry the Hippo. To make matters worse, she was starting to feel hungry.

2. Fairytale Plot Generator (Springhole.net)

Instead of a whole written fairy tale, this one gives you just the bare bones of a plot in 3-4 sentences.

The plots generated are each time different, but they have similarities. Usually, there is a hero, there is a problem, there are complications, and there is assistance.

The story is about an adventerous girl who must save a princess, defeat a giant, and escape an abusive parent to outwit a witch. Things are complicated by the villain kidnapping the main character’s brother. Assistance comes in the form of a magic swan.

3. Scratch Fairy Tale Generator

This fairy tale generator starts with 10 questions about names, places, foods, etc. After that, a cat will tell you a fairy tale.

The fairy tale is the same each time; only your answers are inserted in the story.

The fairy tale told is very basic, more like a plot than a story.

4. Servicescape Writing Prompt Generator (BEST PLOT)

This writing prompt generator does not generate new fairy tales. Instead, it selects them from more than a thousand writing prompts.

The result is a plot that you can then use to turn into an elaborate fairy tale.

There was an old lady who lived in a shoe until its owner returned. After a long hibernation, the giant came down from the mountain to find his forgotten left boot inhabited with pests. Enraged, he gave the old woman and her many children three days to vacate the shoe. Panicked, the mother didn’t know what to do. However, her children hatched a plot. They attacked the giant when he returned in three days and demanded that he let them keep their beloved—albeit stinky—home.

5. Sweet and Sour Tamarind

You can create your fairy tale even in a simple WordPress blog. This blog’s author gives you the beginning of a fairy tale you can customize with your choices. Then, you can send in the result.

However, I would not call this a fairy tale generator. It gives you a story, and you can choose words, but it does not generate more text than you can already read.

However, it might inspire you to make something like that for children. It limits their choices; sometimes, that’s exactly what is needed.
